Public Leadership, Public Faith

Christian leadership is unique in that how we show up in the world is shaped by our vision for how God is showing up in the world. Jesus is the key to what this looks like, and where we can be promised Christ is present. Christian leadership, then, is about following and trusting where Christ shows up is where we need to be also. And not so that we bring God to those places, but in a strange and important reversal, that we ourselves are met by God in Christ in those places.

Once again, this is why listening matters. Because it is in listening where we first begin to practice waiting and anticipating where God might show up. This is why we talk about being divine detectives. Our public leadership as Christians, then, is about learning how to be present for a world where God is actually meeting us out there, in and among the marginalized, dismissed, and hurting folks.
